چکیده

Data analysts would benefit greatly from the ability to navigate and view combined multidimensional data from multiple sources, a key requirement of which is the conformity between their dimensions. The strict requirements of conformity restrict navigating to related multidimensional data from unseen or unfamiliar sources. In this paper we make a distinction between conformed dimension tables and conformed dimension attributes and discuss the merits of relaxing the conformity requirement. We propose extending the navigation operation drill across to include the non-conformed dimensions and introduce Nested Pivot Tables as an extension to Pivot Tables to show how sources that have conformed as well as non-conformed dimensions can be viewed and analyzed together.

Extending the Multidimensional Model for Linking Cubes

Data warehouses structure data in multidimensional cubes, where dimensions specify different ways in which measures in facts may be viewed, aggregated, and sorted. It is essential for data analysts to combine data from heterogeneous multidimensional cubes to enhance their analysis capabilities. For this, users are restricted in using only shared dimensions for navigating related multidimensiona...

Supporting Roll-Up and Drill-Down Operations over OLAP Data Cubes with Continuous Dimensions via Density-Based Hierarchical Clustering

In traditional OLAP systems, roll-up and drill-down operations over data cubes exploit fixed hierarchies defined on discrete attributes that play the roles of dimensions, and operate along them. However, in recent years, a new tendency of considering even continuous attributes as dimensions, hence hierarchical members become continuous accordingly, has emerged mostly due to novel and emerging a...

Interactive Poster: Exploring OLAP Aggregates with Hierarchical Visualization Techniques

Analysts interact with data cubes in a predominantly “drill-down” fashion, i.e. from coarse grained aggregates towards the desired level of detail. Hierarchical visualization techniques offer an adequate structure for mapping the logic of the exploration due to preserving the overview of the entire interaction and providing the details of every drill-down step. We present a novel user interface...

Web 2.0 OLAP: From Data Cubes to Tag Clouds

Increasingly, business projects are ephemeral. New Business Intelligence tools must support ad-lib data sources and quick perusal. Meanwhile, tag clouds are a popular community-driven visualization technique. Hence, we investigate tag-cloud views with support for OLAP operations such as roll-ups, slices, dices, clustering, and drill-downs. As a case study, we implemented an application where us...
